This ‘have to be there’ event is designed for Tenant Participation and Community Involvement staff from across Wales.  It promotes an excellent All Wales networking environment so you can learn from each other and get ‘up to speed’ on current issues.

Complaints about service delivery are important to both tenants and landlords for differing reasons – and when resolved and dealt with effectively, complaints can lead to improved services which meet the needs of both tenants and landlords.

Using good practice examples from across Wales and the UK, this half-day interactive Masterclass aims to explore the complaints process from both a tenant and landlord perspective – structuring and responding to complaints, using complaints monitoring information effectively and using complaints to shape better and more responsive services.

Developed in partnership with the Public Service Ombudsman for Wales, participants will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of their role in dealing with complaints.

This session will help you build on what you are currently doing by exploring new approaches and ideas for Tenant Auditors/Inspectors to consider.

During the day you will have an opportunity to:-

•  Share information, ideas and experiences
•  Reflect on how best to plan and prepare for your project
•  Explore how to include equality issues and value for money during your work
•  Meet other tenants,  Inspectors / Auditors and their mentors from across Wales

Existing Tenant Auditors/Inspectors, staff and those who are considering developing Tenant Inspector/Auditor projects.

Some members of the protest undertook direct action in blocking Boulevard de Stuttgart. At no point did members of staff from TPAS Cymru, take part in, encourage, support or condone the acts of civil disobedience displayed on Saturday in blocking Boulevard de Stuttgart.

Direct action and civil disobedience detracts from the reality of the housing issues and wave of welfare reforms that we are currently facing, which will have a great impact on individuals and communities in Wales.

We have been working in partnership with social housing providers and tenants for over 25 years, supporting and campaigning for the provision and access to affordable housing in Wales. We will continue to support and work with other organisations, social housing providers and communities, peacefully, against the harsh welfare reforms that are being introduced by Central Government.

All social landlords in Wales have to achieve the environmental element of WHQS and Welsh Government has also included outcomes for environmental and community issues in their published Local Delivery Outcomes. However, social landlords and their tenants may be unsure as what is expected and how to interpret these requirements at a local level.

This half-day interactive Masterclass will refresh participant’s knowledge and understanding of the WHQS Environmental Standard. Citing good practice examples from across Wales, we will look at how social landlords have interpreted the standard locally.

This Masterclass will provide you with the tools to start you on the journey to develop a local environmental standard, and how to involve tenants, residents and members of the local community in developing the standard.

Homes for Wales – Housing Bill for Wales

Welsh Government is currently drafting legislation that will form part of the first Housing Bill for Wales. Welsh Government has been consulting on proposals which are likely to be contained within the Housing Bill since 2012 – with the White Paper published in May 2012.

Renting Homes Bill

A proposal for a Bill on tenancy reform was included in the Welsh Government’s commitment to reform housing law which was outlined in the Housing White Paper, published in May 2012. The Welsh Government proposal received strong support from a wide range of organisations, from across the housing sector, including TPAS Cymru. The Welsh Government intends to publish a White Paper on Renting Homes in spring 2013.

The proposed Bill will provide a legal framework for renting a home that is fair, simple and efficient. It will help both tenants and landlords and enable the whole housing system to work more effectively.

Welsh Tenants have organised a peaceful rally with the aim of raising awareness of the impacts on tenants of the bedroom tax.

Members of TPAS Cymru staff will be attending both of the rallies in support of the campaigns.
